Overview

This project of State significance proposes a multipurpose stadium at Macquarie Point (the project).

The project is subject to an integrated assessment process under the State Policies and Projects Act 1993 (the Act) and the requirements of the Ministerial Direction issued under the Act.

The first stage of the process is the preparation, public exhibition and finalisation of Guidelines. The Guidelines are to be followed in the preparation of reports to be presented to the Commission for the purpose of the integrated assessment. The guidelines are not criteria for assessment of the project.

Received

The proposal for a multipurpose stadium at Macquarie Point was declared to be a project of state significance by the Governor on 16 October 2023 in the State Policies and Projects (Project of State Significance) Order 2023. This declaration order was gazetted on the same day as Statutory Rule 2023, No. 66.

Following the making of the Order, the Premier directed the Commission to undertake an integrated assessment of this project addressing the environmental, social, economic and community impacts and other matters.

Parliament approved the Order on 8 November 2023.

Commission receives Ministerial Direction

The Premier provided a Ministerial Direction to the Commission to undertake an integrated assessment of the Macquarie Point multipurpose stadium project with certain requirements under the terms of the State Policies and Projects Act 1993.

The Governor made an Order to declare the Macquarie Point multipurpose stadium a project of state significance.

Exhibition

Draft guidelines

The Premier has directed the Commission to prepare guidelines as the first stage of an integrated assessment of this project. The guidelines must be available by the 16 February 2024. Draft guidelines will be published on Monday 4 December 2023.

Public comment on the draft guidelines is invited. All submissions must be made by close of business on Monday 8 January 2024.

Exhibition of draft guidelines

The Macquarie Point multipurpose stadium project draft guidelines are on exhibition during this period. All exhibition documents are available below.

Hearing

A hearing was not held into the comments on the draft guidelines, however there will be further participation opportunities throughout the assessment process.

Decision

Finalising the guidelines concludes the first stage of this project. These guidelines are to be followed in the preparation of reports to be presented for the purposes of the integrated assessment of the project. The guidelines are not criteria for the assessment of the project.

The integrated assessment of the project has not yet commenced.

Panel finalises guidelines

The panel finalised the guidelines for the Macquarie Point multipurpose stadium project under section 20(2B) of the Act after considering all comments.
