Overview
The major project proposes use and development for a wind farm and associated infrastructure northeast of George Town, centred around Soldiers Settlement Road, southwest of Beechford and east of Low Head, with a transmission line connecting to Bell Bay.
It comprises up to 28 wind turbine generators, associated hardstands, a battery energy storage system, electricity reticulation, 8km transmission line, substation and switchyard, access roads, carparking, buildings and associated infrastructure, temporary construction facilities including construction compound, concrete batching plant and quarry on a site of approximately 2,780 hectares.
This is the second stage of the major project assessment process under the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993 (the Act). The Major Project Impact Statement (MPIS) prepared by the proponent is referred to relevant regulators and assessed by the Development Assessment Panel (the Panel) against the assessment criteria. The Panel publicly exhibits the proposal and MPIS and invites comment. The Panel then decides whether to grant a major project permit.
