Katrena has more than 15 years Local Government experience including 5 years as CEO of the Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) and Director of Environment, Development and Community at Kingborough Council. While CEO at LGAT Katrena was a member of the State Government’s Planning Reform Taskforce and the Minister’s Affordable Housing Action Plan Reference Group.

Since leaving Council at the end of 2023, Katrena has expanded her portfolio of non-executive director roles including as Chair of the Southern Tasmanian Regional Waste Authority, and members of the Primary Health Tasmanian Board and Medical Board of Tasmania. She is a member of the Tasmanian Divisional Council of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Katrena is a fellow of Local Government Professionals Tasmania.

Katrena has a PhD from SouthBank University in London, 1st Class Honors in Environmental Studies from the University of Tasmania and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne.
