The Taiwan Pulp and Paper Corporation (TPPC) proposed to construct and operate a bleached eucalypt kraft pulp mill in northern Tasmania. The project was approved by both Houses as a project of State significance on 20 November 1996.
It was anticipated the mill would produce between 450,000-550,000 tonnes per annum of market pulp for export. The cost of the project was expected to be approximately $A1.1 - $1.3 billion.
TPPC has not proceeded with the proposal.
