The Public Land Use Commission (now Tasmanian Planning Commission) conducted an inquiry into a revision of Crown land classifications. The inquiry was referred to the Commission by the Government in 1994. The Commission made its recommendations in a report to Government in November 1995.
The aim of the inquiry was to provide a simpler system of land classification based on primary management objectives and on the Protected Area Categories System of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN - World Conservation Union).
