The Tasmanian Planning Scheme and the SPPs

The Tasmanian Planning Scheme consists of State Planning Provisions (SPPs) and a Local Provisions Schedule (LPS) for each municipal area. The SPPs contain a set of 23 zones and 16 codes making up a suite of development controls that can be applied by local councils.

State Planning Provisions (SPPs) amendment process

The Minister, or Commission if directed, may prepare a terms of reference and an amendment to the SPPs.  The Commission undertakes public exhibition of amendments to the SPPs and considers any issues raised by anyone making representations during the exhibition period.  The Commission may hold hearings and must report to the Minister recommending whether or not the amendment to the SPPs should be made.

The Minister makes the decision whether or not to approve the amendment.
