Planning directives are a way of giving direction on a wide range of planning matters and can provide for a consistent approach to land use issues, procedural matters associated with the suite of Resource Management and Planning System legislation, or application of State Policies.
The process for putting a planning directive in place involves the Commission. Like any other person, the Commission can prepare a draft planning directive. Whether or not it prepared the draft planning directive, the Commission has a role in its assessment. This process is set out in the diagram -
