Assessment of planning scheme amendments

Commission’s role in Planning Scheme Amendments

Conduct of Public Hearings

After a planning authority has certified and exhibited a draft amendment and reported on representations received during the public exhibition period, the Commission conducts a hearing into each of the representations.

Following the hearing the Commission may;

  • approve the draft amendment; or
  • modify the draft amendment, or direct the Council to do so; or
  • alter the draft amendment to a substantial degree, or direct the Council to do so; or
  • reject the draft amendment

Approval of draft planning scheme amendment

At the completion of the public process and after the necessary changes have been made, the Commission approves a draft amendment and gives a date for its commencement.
