Assessments and reviews

Assessments and reviews are the Commission’s core functions.

Under the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993 the Commission is responsible for the assessment and approval of:


The State Policies and Projects Act 1993 provides for the assessment of projects of State significance and recommendations to the Minister on whether the project ought to proceed.

The State Policies and Projects Act also provides for the assessment of draft State Policies and for the Tasmanian State of the environment report.

Inquiries are conducted by the Commission into the use of public land in accordance with the requirements of the Public Land (Administration and Forests) Act 1991.

The Commission reviews reports from the Director of National Parks and Wildlife, the Secretary of the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and the Environment and Wellington Park Managment Trust on draft reserve management plans, draft water management plans and draft Wellington Park management plans.
